The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher at Friendship Academy, a special education school for children with emotional and behavioral disorders located 4 miles east of Pittsburgh, PA.

Special Education Teacher Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and revise the individualized education program (IEP) for each assigned student
- Work collaboratively with content area teachers/ancillary teachers to plan, develop, and implement courses
- Demonstrate planning and preparation strategies and skills
- Implement strategies for motivating and managing students (i.e. Student Behavior Management System)
- Demonstrate a range of instructional approaches and alternative methods of assessment appropriate for the strengths and needs of diverse learners, including direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on projects
- Monitor and evaluate student progress
- Provide academic feedback to students along with regular progress reports
- Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills appropriate for working in a multifaceted program
- Update Friendship Academy curriculum documents, based on an established curriculum cycle
- Complete paperwork as required by the program
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Active Pennsylvania teaching certification in special education required
- Related work experience in field is preferred
- Current Acts 34, 114, and 151 clearances required
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, and brisk walking
- Ability to use the strategies of Comprehensive Crisis Management and Ukeru to physically support students for their safety and the safety of others.
- Pre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test required
